October 19th (Saturday) we left for MA & NH, arriving in MA at 7 am.
Beth had already made 3 trips to the hospital in as many days.
The doctor said the baby wasn’t ready to be born.
Beth went back into the hospital on Friday and the doctor said he would do a caesarian section on Saturday. Baby Grace Elizabeth was born on Saturday October 21st. at 10:30 am. She came into the world weighing 9 pounds and 5 ounces and was 21 inches long.
Beautiful baby girl! The doctor said she had no intention of leaving the womb, she was happy there. We hung around the hospital until Gracie was born and then after taking a couple pictures, we left for NH.
We arrived in NH in time for Grampy to baptize and confirm Eric Jr. a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was a nice service held especially for Little Eric.
On Sunday we went to church with Eric and the family. After Sacrament Meeting we drove back down to MA. Eric and Sandy and family followed in their car. We spent the afternoon visiting Beth and the baby. We dressed Gracie in her blessing dress and bonnet that I made for her and Grampy gave her a grandfather’s blessing.
We left for home on Monday, arriving around 7 pm.
On Friday the 27th of October we left home for CO, ID,UT, and BC.
We arrived at Felila’s in Grand Junction, CO at about 2:00 pm. We visited with the Fountain Family the rest of the day. She was in the middle of sewing costumes for her boys for Halloween. They are characters from the Pirates of the Caribbean. She sure did a good job. They looked so good. Then we spent the night in our van in her driveway and left the next morning before daybreak heading for UT.
We stopped in Layton, UT and visited for a few hours with Corrine and Mellisa and Jetson. We met Kylee and Keyara for the first time. What cuties they are, and Kaiden has sure grown! What a live-wire!!
Then after loading Robin’s storage into the van we drove on to Pocatello to Luaine’s.
Halloween day we helped Luaine get Trisha and Dallas dressed for Trunk or Treat at the church, and then took them there. It was cold, but there were a lot of people there and it was nice for the kids. Dallas was Superman and Trisha was a Medieval Princess.
Vaughn is still not ready to be born. He is due on the 7th.
On the 4th of Nov. Heidi took Luaine and me out to the Golden Corral for dinner. After dinner Richard and I went to Rexburg to BYU Idaho. Christifer was in a musical performance with the University Choir. It was very well done. After the performance we took Christifer back to Pocatello for the week-end.
We went out to Rockland for a couple days with Heidi and Jim and boys.
On the 7th Luaine went into the hospital to be induced, since Vaughn wasn’t in any hurry to meet the world. He and Gracie just seemed to be happy right where they were.
After a few hours, the doctor said that Vaughn was in some stress and he suspected the cord was wrapped around Vaughn’s neck, so the opted to do a caesarian section.
So Vaughn was born on his due date, weighing 7 pounds +. He had to spend a few days in the NIC Unit because, evidentially, unbeknown to anyone, Luaine must have had high blood sugar prior to the birth. So when Vaughn was born his blood sugar dropped. They had to give him high amounts of sugar and then drop it slowly until he could tolerate it on his own. He is fine now. A Beautiful Baby.
So while we were waiting for Vaughn to come home from the hospital and for Thanksgiving, we traveled to Victoria, BC, Canada to visit with Robin and Ron.
We really enjoyed the ferry rides over and back and had a great time visiting.
Robin made us a great Turkey dinner and had several of their friends over. It was wonderful. We spent a lot of time playing with their new kittens and playing “chicken foot dominoes”. Robin sang a solo in church and we were blessed to be able to be there for that as well. We did some shopping and running around, but mostly enjoyed just being there with Robin and Ron and spending that time. They live in a very nice apartment complex. It makes me think of a grand hotel.
We returned to Luaine a few days before Thanksgiving. On the 21st. of Nov. Heidi had a baby shower for Luaine at her home in Rockland. There were about 12 women in attendance and she received gifts from several women who could not make it to the shower.
Two days before Thanksgiving, Felila and her children arrived. They stayed out at Heidi’s until Thanksgiving Day, and then they came into Pocatello and spent the next couple nights at Luaine’s. It was a wonderful visit. We played games and talked and ate and talked and ate and played some more games! All the kids had a ball playing together. All in all there were 15 cousins there counting BJ, Christifer and Vaughn, and 7 adults.
On Sunday the 26th, we attended church with Luaine and Jack, where Richard was privileged to give Vaughn a blessing, in Sacrament Meeting. Heidi and Jim and boys attended and Uncle Dell was there as well. Afterwards we went back to Luaine’s for a nice “salad bar” dinner.
While we were in ID we acquired a new dog. Sage Moondust is her registered name. She is a Spitz. She looks like a pure white fox. We love her. She took the trip back to PA well and gets along great with our cat, Bunny.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
We pray that you will have a wonderful New Year, filled with
peace, happiness, joy, good fortune and all the blessings that our
Father in Heaven has to offer.
Try to remember each day, throughout the coming year, “The Reason for the Season”! The birth of our Lord and Savior and what His birth, crucifixion and resurrection mean in everyone’s life. And show that by example.
You are our family and friends and we love you and miss you.
We wish to be a regular part of your lives. Please keep in touch.
Email is wonderful! A few words here and there help us to reach
that goal, yet it takes just a few moments.

WE LOVE YOU, Mom & Dad or Joy & Richard

The past little while has been fairly routine for the two of us. We have been traveling approx. every other Sunday, all over the Jamestown, NY Stake. (Our Stake) It covers all of Venango County, the NE part of Clarion County, Crawford County, Erie County, all in PA and probably some other areas that I have missed, and Chautauqua County, NY and probably some of Cattaraugus County, NY as well. The stake boundaries are large. As a High councilman, Richard has to visit one of the 10 Wards or Branches in the Stake every other week at least. During Ward Conferences, he sometimes has to go every week. Then he has to go to Jamestown, NY every other Thursday for High Council Meeting with the Stake Presidency. Fortunately, we have 2 other High Councilmen and the 1st Counselor in the Stake Presidency in our Ward, so they can share rides for this meeting.I have been working as the Family History Consultant, with Brother and Sister McMunn working under me. Connie Mc Munn mans the Family History Center on Wednesday night. At this time it is the only day of the week that the center is open. I have gone into the center and cleaned it up and re-organized the working areas. We got a new computer and now have it set up for use.
Our two cats, Mouse and Bunny are thriving and doing well. Mouse always wants to be in the house, but since I have the allergies I cannot allow that, so she spends a good deal of her time either in the sun on in the greenhouse or on the breezeway. She is approx. 11 years old. Bunny is a typical kitten and very playful. We are searching for a dog to adopt. We want a young female, all white Spitz. Some people recognize them as American Eskimo. They are the same breed. Aunt Connie, Aunt Carol and I were raised with a Spitz and I love them. So far we haven't had any luck finding one that we can afford.
I have been having some problems with my diabetes lately, so I was referred to a specialist. Don't need to tell you how much that cost us since I don't have Medicare yet. But she has me on quite a rough regime of insulin shots each day. I think it is improving. My leg problem with the lymphedema is about the same. Some of the fluid retention is down since the weather is cooler, but walking for very far is still quite a problem. But I don't let that get me down.
We are planning a trip out west in Nov. So will report on that when we get back.We will be going in a few days to MA for the birth of Beth's baby girl and Eric Jr's baptism.Love, USDad or Mom
Hi All,
Just to keep you up on the news here, I was released from the calling as High Priest Group Leader last Sunday, and called to be on the High Council. The approval from the other wards and branches won't be done until this Sunday, and the rest to follow in a couple of weeks. The HP Group Leader was the shortest calling I ever had.
We are glad to hear that things are going better for all.Drop us a line when you can.Love, Dad (Richard) |
